Asian Scene- The UN Non-Violence Day, 7th October – The Star

“It is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind” this quote of Mahatma Gandhi was spoken by the High Commissioner of India to Kenya Mr Yogeshwar Varma on Thursday 2nd October at the United Nations office for the International Day of Non-Violence. The Director General, UNON Ms Sahle-Work Zewde read out the message of the UN Secretary General Ban-kim Moon “the horizon of hope is darkened” in regards to the recent state of the world.

 

Meanwhile the director General of UNEP Achim Steiner also added “Gandhi would have started at the opening of the UN done last month in New York.”

Also attending was the Principal Secretary Ministry of Education Dr Belio Kipsang, Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal, who said “Gandhi’s principles of national unity and human rights are in our Kenyan constitution” and to close was Senior Counsel Mr Pheroze Nowrojee.
