Pakistan celebrated the 68th Independence Day on Thursday 14th August 2014 and this time the High Commission to Nairobi held a fun filled T20 cricket match at the Jaffery’s Club Lavington. The Pakistan High Commissioner H.E. Mr Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui was present and gave participation certificates to all the players of both teams and the winning cup to the Team Captain Rana Uzair. Although it was a small turnout being a weekday it was a step in the direction to make the independence day more interactive and family filled day with the most loved game in the country, cricket.
There was a different buzz at the High Commission Of India residence on Friday 15th August morning. Naturally it was India’s 68th Independence Day and they had a new Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is known to give amazing speeches, but also the High Commissioner of India to Kenya was different, Mr Yogesh Varma. He is such a tall gentleman but every bit down to earth. He especially came out to greet each and every guest before the flag hoisting ceremony and this took most of the public with a pleasant surprise. “Happy Independence Day” soon buzzed around and the honor was given to the flag and a few speeches and refreshments.
