There was grace, glamour and grandeur at the Kamini’s School of Dancing Show- Lasya on Saturday 26th April at the Oshwal Centre Auditorium. With over 50 girls from the ages of 5 to 18 performing and in colorful costumes, this show was amazing. It was an adaption of the journey of classical dancing from the temples to Bollywood. The show was also dedicated to a fellow student Neha Mashru who passed away in the tragic West Gate Terror Attack last year.
The opening dance sequence which introduced nearly half the cast was colorful, strong and a dance prayer, announced by the emcee East FM’s Shiksha Arora. There were several overjoyed and proud parents who were beaming and telling the person sitting next to them “see that’s my daughter”. The crowd favorite performances were the dance medley from the film “Mohabatein” and the dance off fusion of classical versus contemporary from the film “Dil To Pagal Hai”. Indian classical dancing was showcased in black and white films like “Kalpana” and recently in the mega opus “Devdas”. Kamini Thakkar thanked all the major sponsors, including Prime Bank, Elgon Kenya and Giro Bank but also all those who came to make this show happen, “we need your financial support otherwise this dance will die a slow death” she said.
