It was a little like “lights, camera, action!” on Sunday 10th November at the Laico Regency.
Hon. Sunjeev Kaur Birdi, (Nominated) M.P. fondly known as Sonia Birdi hosted a dinner for the Hon. William Samoei Ruto, Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, who arrived timely. He was the Chief Guest and there were several other key personalities such as Hon. Aden Duale, Hon. Sakaja Johnson and Dr Hassan Wario Arero amongst others. When I asked Sonia why she did this, she said “I would like to acknowledge and thank the Deputy President and the Government of Kenya for nominating the first Kenyan lady who is an Asian into Parliament, I would also like us all to celebrate the 50 years of Kenyan glory, our birthday and finally I would like for all communities to get closer and more active.” The business and economic perspective came in from Mr Vimal Shah who encouraged the audience that this Government is open and we should all venture and become investors instead of sitting on fence for foreigners.
Amongst the speakers Hon. Aden Duale and Hon. Sakaja Johnson, they congratulated Sonia and wished her well. The Deputy President admired her courage and was grateful to the chance for such a gathering.
The opening act of the night was by Harleen Matharu, who sang “I feel good” and set the mood for celebration. The master of ceremonies Parveen Adam carried the floor with her grace and the final performance after the cake cutting ceremony by the bhangra group, opened the dance floor.
