The education of money has started early for the Young Jains of Nairobi. This is the first time ever worldwide that this type of class and prayer took place for the children between the ages of 5 and 15 or even young adults on Saturday 26th October at the Navnat Bhavan. As the biggest festival and New Year of the Hindus comes close, Diwali there are several prayers that are done to the lead up. One of these is the Chopda Pujan, which is significant for all business people as they present their ledger books to the Goddess Laxmi (Goddess of Wealth) to seek blessings for the coming financial year. However the Young Jains incorporated not only the education of wealth for the children but the scales of good and bad, through the “Book of Consciousness”.
They prayed to Lord Mahavir, Goddess Saraswati and Laxmi and were thought the several aspects of wealth, spiritual consciousness and how to balance them. There were over a 100 children who participated and the Head Teacher of the Young Jains School, Pratibha Shah was excited and proud of the students.
