It is gaining popularity and becoming an annual event, the Ramgarhia Youth Association “Khel Mela” was held in style at the Sikh Union Club on Sunday 14th July. The number of sponsors was record and entrance was free, while attendance was also relatively high closer to the evening. There was much entertainment, from live music, dance, singing and also the games, thus the name “Khel Mela” which means sports fun fare.
The Guest of Honor was Mr Balbir Singh Bhachu, and while there were many regular stalls of clothes, games and food, the new entry was from Hon. Sunjeev Kaur Birdi, MP who decided to spend a day with the community and cook chips, bhajias, and hot dogs and be at their service. The first time ever I believe an MP has put on a chef’s hat and it was a bumper sale, where profits will go to charity and support the slum projects. The games include many races and women were most supportive, they were dressed in Indian outfits of salwar kameez but that did not deter them and they ran for the spirit of sports encouraged by their friends and children, it was all great fun.
