The other meaning for the word mother is life where she is the creator, giver and worshipper. It took a long journey of sacrifice and it was rewarded splendidly on Sunday 12th May, which coincidentally was Mother’s Day too. With the blessing of Acharya Dev Shrti Hemprabh Swami and Shri Acharya Dev Lalit Sekharji the mother of Dipak Shah, Piyush Shah and Harshna Shah, Shrimati Kantaben Ratilal Shah has successfully completed Varshitap. Many thousand of years ago the first Tirthankara in Jainism started this fasting of Varshitap and he did it for 400 days as homage to the Almighty.
Mrs Kantaben Ratilal Shah fasted for 14 months and this entailed eating food sparingly and on alternate days. This devotion is considered a highly spiritual service to the Almighty and blessings for the entire family. Born on 28th October, 1934 she is a humble lady who received much love from the family and well wishers, which included her grand-daughter Khelin Shah giving a speech on her life of compassion, teaching and a passion for sewing. There were prayers, singing and then celebration, which included carrying her on the chair by the men of the family with utmost respect.
This occasion marked the Varshitap for two other wonderful women, Sarojben Shah and Hansaben Shah. Sarojben became a more devout Jain especially when she experienced a personal medical miracle. She was admitted in the hospital for burst ulcers and her heart beat stopped for a few minutes and she came back, this changed her life ten years ago and she has not looked back at the Almighty’s blessings.
