This is no ordinary dance but the dance of life. Girls as young as five years old enrol to learn the Indian Classical form of dance known as “Bharat Naytam” which can be compared to “Ballet” and offers its own set of challenges. At the end of eight years of learning and training comes the moment every girl looks forward to because it is now her moment of achievement and glory, this graduation ceremony is known as “arangetram”. Saturday 1st September night at the Oshwal Academy Auditorium it was the graduation night for Hinal Shah. She was a wonderful, graceful dancer and her family was as proud of her as the audience that supported her with showers of applause. She was graduating from one of the oldest dance school’s in Kenya, the Kamini School of Dancing and Dance Master Kamini explained to me that this is an important dance form which brings discipline, fitness, feminity and adds the element of meditation and a spiritual quest for the girl.
