It was a big day for the finalist Chefs Emmanuel Aluda and Joseph Macharia on Saturday 30th June at the Sarit Center Exhibition Hall for the Sun Gold Sunrice Super Chef Pro competition. After starting out from over thirty participants it was down to these two to win the grand cash prize of a quarter of a million shillings and a trophy for their establishment.
The Judges had requested each chef to bring in their own choice of ingredient to the final for their starter, main course and desert. The twist came in when they were asked to exchange and now be faced with making the meals in the allotted time limit of two hours. A big challenge at hand and a bigger prize to grab, Chef Emmanuel Aluda of Sarova Stanley and Chef Joseph Macharia of Fairview Hotel put their best skills, experience and creativity. The supporters were great and kept the applause and atmosphere with a high energy as they viewed the sponsors’ products, watched the Chefs work hard at their cooking and mingled with the East FM team.
First came out the starter and Chef Joseph Macharia appeared to be in the lead with a wonderful salmon type of salad. In the main course Chef Emmanuel Aluda caught up and made a delicious chicken but in the desert Chef Joseph Macharia came back with a delicate and mouthwatering ice cream biscuit.
And then the moment we had all been waiting for, the newly crowned Sun Gold Sunrice Super Chef Pro winner was Chef Joseph Macharia. He jumped up with joy and from then on, it was gift after gift for him and Chef Emmanuel Aluda. The prize cheque of 250,000shillings was presented to him by the Bidco Oil Refineries Limited and Sunrice Team. There will surely be a next time and an even bigger pool of competitors, followers and prize.
