Harleen Matharu, DJ SAK & Apache Indian
An average Asian individual is into Indian Classical or Bollywood music, but meet a girl who is going a different path. Harleen Matharu, a Law student at the University of London has gone on You Tube with her first cover single of the song “Space Bound” originally done by the famous rap star Eminem from his album Recovery.
It has been a few days now and this recording is receiving good likes and is also featured on the famous Sound Cloud website which hunts out for upcoming talent. She started singing at the age of eight but did not perform in public until she was in Year 3 of High School when she sung “Heaven” which was remixed by DJ Samy.
Her favorite artists include Adele, Eminem, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Adnan Sami and Jagjit Singh. When I asked her if she would take part in an “Idols” type of competition, she said she may just go ahead and try it, otherwise it does sound like a good career to become a lawyer in the music industry too.
International music and collaborations are now making sound waves across the globe and this time it is the turn of the famous Kenyan DJ SAK and his collaboration with Apache Indian of the “Chak de” fame. The two have done a remix version of DJ SAK’s song “bol has ke” and it has an urban flavour sound to it and it capturing fans on iTunes.
Social media has changed the way musicians can now promote their music and DJ SAK has over 5000 likes on his Facebook page, while this song has received nearly 5000 views on YouTube and still growing. The song features in the Apache Indian album “Home Run” which also includes artists like Malkit Singh, Miss Pooja and A R Rahman.
This collaboration has been a dream come true for DJ SAK, who had brought down Apache Indian for a concert through his entertainment company, White Pigeon Entertainment. I guess, watch this space for some more beats.
