Let Yourself Go!- ZNMD Review (Harleen’s Blog)

24 Jul

What better way to discover yourself than through a road trip with friends?

Welcome to the film “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”. This is a journey of three school friends who are now in their early 30s and settling down in life when they finally get together to enjoy a holiday and road trip in Spain.

First the choice of the destination Spain was refreshing, warm, beautiful and sexy. This kind of scenic drives and just plain talk with friends has not been shown on Bollywood so this too was a fresh treat.

Second the choice of the three actors as friends couldn’t have been better. They represent well mannered, mature, adventurous, humorous and sexy guys- Abhay Deol, Farhan Akthar and Hrithik Roshan. The winning lady was Katrina Kaif as Laila the diving instructor and the girl with a free spirit. Her chemistry with Hrithik Roshan was sweet and they both worked on each other’s charm.

Money, love and death are the main topics they are dealing with and these are intertwined with their relationships, through a girlfriend, father and fiancée.

Life can bring you to a crossroad and sometimes you are not sure which direction to choose because you also suddenly realize that you lived in a box all this time and don’t know how to get out.

This is a sure winner for director Zoya Akthar and her co-writer Reema Kagti. The Akthar family is no doubt talented, with their father Javed Akthar writing meaningful lyrics and poetry for his son’s character Imran, this is power packed family. They see life openly and differently without any hang ups or the usual clichés and they don’t need buckets of tears to prove the emotions.

After all it goes with the motto of the film, “let yourself go”….
